Should You Order QuickBooks Checks with or without Lines?

QuickBooks Check Tip: Choose checks without lines (except the signature line) to avoid printing misalignment, especially if you use multiple accounts. Pick checks with lines only if you often handwrite checks and want extra writing guidance.

Can I Adjust Check Alignment in QuickBooks?

Yes - QuickBooks lets you adjust check alignment, but it's one setting for all accounts. If you print from multiple accounts or your printer shifts slightly, lined checks may still print off-center, making no lines the safer choice.

How to adjust check alignment in QuickBooks Desktop

• Go to File → Printer Setup.
• Select Check/Paycheck from the Form Name drop-down.
• Click Align.
• QuickBooks will print a sample alignment page.
• Follow the instructions on the page - measure the shift and enter the adjustment values in the dialog box.
• Print another test until the text lines up correctly.

💡 Tip: QuickBooks only saves one alignment setting for all accounts - so if you have multiple bank accounts with slightly different check layouts, you'll need to re-adjust before printing from another account.

How to adjust check alignment in QuickBooks Online

• Click the Gear icon (⚙️) in the top right.
• Select Custom Form Styles or Check Printing Setup (depending on your version).
• Click Align Checks.
• Print a sample page.
• Use the on-screen tool to drag text up/down or left/right until aligned.
